Frequently Asked Questions

What does a digital manifold do that a mechanical set does not?

A Testo digital manifold calculates superheat and subcooling while you work, records a tightness test as a pressure curve, and passes the whole measurement to the Testo Smart App for documentation. The 550i, 550s and 558s also connect wirelessly to Testo probes, so temperature, vacuum and refrigerant weight arrive in the same reading.

What is the difference between the Testo 550i, 550s and 558s?

All three work with the Testo Smart App, so the difference is the valve block and how you operate the instrument. The 550i and 550s both have a 2-way valve block: the 550i is the smallest in the range and is app-controlled, while the 550s adds a large graphic display on the instrument and is supplied with two clamp temperature probes, a transport case and a calibration protocol. The 558s has a 4-way valve block, is operated by touchscreen, keypad or app, and adds A3 and A2L compatibility, trend curves across a 30 minute period and a hybrid power system using replaceable batteries alongside a USB-C rechargeable battery.

Are these manifolds robust enough for site work?

The 550i, 550s and 558s all carry IP54 protection, which covers dust and splashing water on site.

Can I add vacuum or temperature measurement later?

Yes. All three manifolds pair with Testo Smart Probes, so the 552i wireless vacuum probe, 115i clamp thermometers or a 605i thermohygrometer can be added when the work calls for them. The 565i smart vacuum pump, available in 7 CFM and 10 CFM, runs automated evacuations with an integrated hold test.
